PM Modi releases Rs. 125 commemorative coin on Swami Prabhupada's 125th birth anniversary
On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the Hare Krishna movement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued a special commemorative coin of Rs 125 through video conferencing. The event was attended by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and some members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
PM Modi aroused the feelings of millions of followers of Srila Prabhupada Swami and millions of Krishna devotees.
Swami Prabhuprada, an Indian religious leader and founder of the Hare Krishna movement and ISKCON. Born in Kolkata in 1896 as Abhay Charan Dey, Prabhupada started a pharmacy business before leaving India in 1959 to spread Krishna's teachings. They moved to New York in 1965 and established the first ISKCON center, now spread over hundreds of temples and cultural centers around the world.
"Every time we go to another country, and when we meet people there and say 'Hare Krishna', we experience ourselves, and how proud we are. Modi said in a virtual event.
He said that the teachings of Swami Prabhupada, like the knowledge of yoga spread all over the world, is an excellent example of how much India can give to the world in the interest of humanity. He added that the whole world should benefit from India's sustainable lifestyle and science like Ayurveda.
